Overview

Trail: Rail Trail crushed limestone Mileage: 235 miles – 39-mile daily average Tour timing: April through October - selected days only This Katy Trail Economy End to End 235 mile tour is our self-guided ride with pre-set dates, lodging, shuttle, and breakfast included in most locations plus any additional services requested. You will stay at economic hotels along the trail and will be riding into some of the towns by road (3 miles or less). This tour is an upgrade from camping but is not part of our regular self-guided tours. Dates are set for the tours and are not able to be adjusted. If you want to ride a 5 day Economy End to End option, please contact us for more details. You begin your 6-day 5-night tour in St. Charles where you are picked up and driven to Clinton, MO to start your ride. Then spend the next days riding back to St. Charles enjoying rural Missouri, wildlife, winery town and riding along the Missouri River. What’s Included: Nightly Accommodations, Breakfast (at most locations), Shuttle, Digital Mapping & Voice Navigation Extras: Luggage Shuttle, Bike Rentals and Extra Accommodations

Day One

Shuttle from St. Charles to Clinton, then ride 36 miles to Sedalia – Meet the shuttle van at St. Charles near the eastern end of the Katy Trail. Overnight parking is available at the KATY parking lot and is free for your entire ride. The St. Charles trailhead is a 20-minute drive or taxi/uber from St. Louis Airport (STL). The shuttle will pick you and your bike up and drive directly to the KATY Trailhead in Clinton (3.5 – 4 hours). Begin your ride on the KATY trail and head to Sedalia – 36 miles. Sedalia is home of the State Fair as well as Scott Joplin. Sedalia has a nice KATY Trail Depot museum that is worth your time for a visit.

Day Two

Cycling Day: 37 miles-Sedalia to Boonville

Begin your day at the KATY Trail Depot Museum in Sedalia or the Scott Joplin Museum before departing Sedalia. Your destination on the trail is Boonville, named for Daniel Boone’s Children. Boonville is home to one of Missouri’s Casinos or you can walk the quaint streets and visit their shops.

Day Three

Cycling Day: 50 miles-Boonville to Jefferson City – Today is the longest section of your tour on the Katy Trail, 50 miles to Jefferson City. In the morning you will cycle beneath towering limestone bluffs some of the highest on the trail. The Missouri River can be seen frequently during the day as well as many small bridges. Your destination is N. Jefferson trailhead across the river from Jefferson City. Follow the path across the Missouri on the safe bike bridge with awesome views of the river and capital building.

Day Four

Cycling Day: 46 miles- Jefferson City to Hermann 

Start your day with a return across the bike bridge to the N. Jefferson trailhead. Ride east to just before McKittrick where you can pick up a bike path into Hermann that crosses the Missouri River on another safe bike bridge. The winery town of Hermann has much to offer including Wineries, Breweries, Distilleries, restaurants and antique shops.

Day Five

Cycling Day: 34 miles- Hermann to Washington

Today’s destination is Washington, MO.  Visit the waterfront street with restaurants and bars.  Great town to relax and see the Missouri River.

Day Six

Cycling Day: 35 miles-Washington to St. Charles

This is your final day of cycling. Leave the hotel in Washingtona and ride back to the trail to St. Charles where you have left your car at the trailhead in St. Charles.  You will pass Augusta which is another wine town as well as Defiance which has a nice local brewery before arriving into St. Charles.  You should arrive back to St. Charles by 1:00pm.   When you arrive in St. Charles you are steps away from the old St. Charles with 1800’s homes and shops on Main Street and you can visit Missouri’s first capitol, KATY Depot and the KATY Trail Museum.
