A bike ride along the Katy Trail takes you through the heart of Missouri.The BAM [Bicycle Across Missouri] experience is one of the best ways to ride the Katy. Worry-free and hassle-free, your hotel reservations will be made for you and your luggage will be shuttled from hotel to hotel. You’ll be trailed by an experienced bike mechanic, provided with a SAG ride if for any reason you wish to shorten the day’s ride and rest part of a day. Enjoy music and complimentary beer every evening with your new friends and fellow bikers as you trade tips and stories. And we’ll shuttle you back to Clinton on 10/14 where your car is parked. There are 26 trailheads along the route, most with water and bathrooms along the way. Many small towns have services along the trail as well that welcome and cater to cyclists. One special rest stop each day will be hosted by a BAM rep, where you can restock water, sports drinks, and snacks. We also call all the restaurants along the way so that they know we are bringing a big group through. This BIG BAM tour includes your BIG BAM Ticket for all events, first class accommodations with breakfast each morning, guidebook to map your ride, your shuttle from Augusta to Clinton, Katy Trail T-shirt and patch, luggage tag, packing list and tour training suggestions. This hotel option begins with check in at Clinton Community Center on 10/10 at 8:00am and concludes on 10/14 in Augusta, MO. You will ride into Augusta in early afternoon on 10/14 and then be shuttled back to Clinton, MO at 3:00pm (arriving around 7:00pm). You will not be staying in Augusta for the music on this night. Your bags will be in the shuttle in Augusta on 10/14 for your ride back to Clinton. You can also add these features to your tour: * Extra night stay in Clinton on 10/9 the night before the tour * Extra night stay in St. Charles on 10/14 - you will need to ride 63 miles from Hermann to St. Charles on 10/14. DAY 1
You will check in at the Katy Trailhead in Clinton, MO at 8:00am. You will receive your BIG BAM Packet of information along with your wrist band. This wrist band will allow you to stop at all SAG locations as well as enter the music areas each night in the host city.
You will then begin your ride on the KATY trail and head to Sedalia – 36 miles. Sedalia is home of the State Fair as well as Scott Joplin. Sedalia has a nice KATY Trail Depot museum that is worth your time for a visit.
DAY 2
Cycling Day: 37 miles-Sedalia to Boonville
Begin your day at the KATY Trail Depot Museum in Sedalia. Your destination on the trail is Boonville, named for Daniel Boone’s Children. Boonville is home to one of Missouri’s Casinos or you can walk the quaint streets and visit their shops.
DAY 3
Cycling Day: 50 miles-Boonville to Jefferson City – Today is the longest section of your tour on the Katy Trail, 50 miles to Jefferson City. In the morning you will cycle beneath towering limestone bluffs some of the highest on the trail. The Missouri River can be seen frequently during the day as well as many small bridges. Your destination is N. Jefferson trailhead across the river from Jefferson City. Follow the path across the Missouri on the safe bike bridge with awesome views of the river and capital building.
DAY 4
Cycling Day: 46 miles- Jefferson City to Hermann
Start your day with a return across the bike bridge to the N. Jefferson trailhead. Ride east toward McKittrick where you can pick up a bike path into Hermann just before McKittrick at MM 101. This road will lead you across the Missouri River on another safe bike bridge. The winery town of Hermann has much to offer including Wineries, Breweries, Distilleries, restaurants and antique shops. Wineries close at 5:30 so start your day early to get a chance to visit this great town.
DAY 5
Cycling Day: 39 miles- Hermann to Augusta
Today’s destination is Augusta, another small winery town with 257 population. But don’t let the small town fool you, it has 5 wineries, antique shops, glass studio and a wood shop awaiting you in this scenic town.
This is your last day on the trail. You should arrive to Augusta in early afternoon and then catch your shuttle back to Clinton at 3:00pm at the trailhead. This should allow you several hours to visit the wineries or shops in Augusta. You will not be staying for the music on this day.
You have an option to ride from Hermann to St. Charles on this day for a total 63 miles. You will not have SAG support from Augusta to St. Charles. You will overnight in St. Charles and then be driven back to Clinton at 8:00am on 10/15. To have this added night hotel, purchase the "Hotel at end of Tour" in the extra purchase area of the booking.
